## Short answer

**Can Claude Code post to Instagram from my repository and release notes?**

Yes, through Tareno. Claude Code reads the release notes and the screenshots in your repository, drafts slide copy, a caption and alt text, and saves a carousel draft for your Instagram account. The screenshots must be public HTTPS files in your media library. Scheduling creates a pending action that you approve in Tareno, so nothing is published from the terminal.

Developer tools rarely have a design team on call at release time, yet an Instagram carousel of the three new screens is often what gets a product noticed outside the developer bubble. Claude Code already knows what shipped, because it can read the changelog and the diff. This page shows how to turn that knowledge into a carousel draft: which files it reads, how screenshots reach Tareno, what Instagram expects from the account, and where the human decision sits. It is written for developer-tool founders and product engineers who ship often and post rarely.

## Example: a CLI tool announces version 2.0

Imagine a small team that ships a command-line deployment tool. On release day the founder opens Claude Code in the repository and asks it to read the 2.0 section of CHANGELOG.md and the folder docs/screens, where three public screenshots live. Claude Code lists what is new, separates it from internal refactors and proposes a five-slide story: the problem, the new command, the result, a migration note and a call to action. It writes the copy for each slide, a caption, and alt text that describes each terminal screenshot in words. Because the screenshots are already hosted at public HTTPS addresses, it adds them to the library with `upload_media_from_url` and saves the carousel through `create_drafts`. The founder reads the draft in Tareno, removes a hostname that appeared in one screenshot and asks for a Thursday 16:00 slot, which stays pending until approved.

## Step by step

1. **Point Claude Code at the release.** Name the changelog section and the folder with screenshots. Ask it to separate user-visible changes from internal work, because only the first group belongs on Instagram.
2. **Check the screenshots for secrets.** Before anything leaves the repository, ask Claude Code to list every screenshot and describe what each one shows, including hostnames, tokens, email addresses and customer names. Replace any image that shows them.
3. **Get the images to Tareno.** Instagram media must be public HTTPS URLs. If the screenshots are already hosted, Claude Code adds them with `upload_media_from_url`, naming a folder and tags; if they are only local files, host them first, because Tareno cannot read your disk.
4. **Draft the story.** Ask for a short slide sequence with one idea per slide, a caption and alt text for each image. Describe terminal output in words in the alt text, since a screen reader cannot read an image of a command.
5. **Save the carousel as a draft.** Claude Code saves the images in order with the caption through `create_drafts` for the Instagram account you name. Read the draft in Tareno on a phone-sized preview if you can, since that is where followers will see it.
6. **Request the slot and approve it.** Give a date, a time and an IANA time zone. Tareno turns the request into a pending action; you approve it in the dashboard and can ask Claude Code to check it with `get_action_status` later.

## Prompts to copy

### Read the release

```text
Read the [2.0] section of CHANGELOG.md and list the folder docs/screens. Tell me which changes a user would notice and which are internal, and propose a five-slide Instagram story from the user-visible ones. Do not call Tareno yet.
```

### Audit the screenshots

```text
For each file in docs/screens describe what is visible, and flag every hostname, token, email address, username or customer name. Tell me which screenshots are safe to publish and which need to be redone before I upload them.
```

### Upload and draft

```text
The screenshots are hosted at [base URL]. Use Tareno to add them to my media library in the folder [releases/2.0] with the tag [v2], then save an Instagram carousel draft for [account name] with this caption: [caption] and alt text that describes each terminal screen in words. Return the draft ID.
```

### Request the slot

```text
Ask Tareno to schedule draft [draft ID] for [Thursday 16:00] in the [Europe/Berlin] time zone. Return the pending action ID and remind me that I have to approve it in the Tareno dashboard before it can publish.
```

## Instagram in Tareno

- Instagram requires media. Tareno's configuration rejects a post without an image or a video, so a release note without a visual cannot go out as a text-only post on this network.
- Media URLs must be public HTTPS addresses. Tareno cannot reach files on your machine, so screenshots that live only in a local folder have to be hosted or uploaded from a URL first.
- Instagram's documentation says API publishing is limited to professional accounts, so a personal account needs to be switched before it can be connected for scheduled publishing.
- Tareno's composer configuration lists up to 10 images per Instagram post and a caption of up to 2,200 characters, which is plenty for a five-slide release story.

Official rules ([Meta: Instagram Platform, content publishing](https://developers.facebook.com/docs/instagram-platform/content-publishing), checked 2026-10-24):

- API publishing is limited to Instagram professional accounts. If the account is linked to a Page that requires Page Publishing Authorization, it cannot publish until that authorization is complete.
- A carousel can hold up to 20 images or videos, mixed. Tareno's own composer configuration lists up to 10 images per Instagram post.
- Alt text sent through the API applies to image posts only; reels and stories do not support it.

## Mistakes to avoid

- Publishing a screenshot that shows an internal hostname or an API key. Audit every image before it is uploaded, because a published image is hard to take back.
- Announcing a feature that is still behind a flag. Ask Claude Code to confirm in the code that each feature named in a slide is enabled by default.
- Writing alt text as "screenshot of the terminal". Describe what the output says, so a person who cannot see the image still learns what changed.
- Letting the carousel mirror the changelog line by line. The story should follow what a user does, not the order in which commits landed.

## What does not work

- Claude Code cannot make the screenshots look good, so the images have to exist already and be reachable at a public HTTPS address.
- It cannot publish to Instagram on its own, because every scheduling or publishing request waits for your approval in the Tareno dashboard.
- It cannot confirm that a screenshot is free of private data unless it reads the image description you accept, so a human check stays part of the process.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can Claude Code post to Instagram?

Yes, through Tareno. Claude Code prepares the carousel, saves it as a draft for your Instagram account and requests a slot. Instagram receives the post only after you approve that request in the Tareno dashboard.

### How do screenshots from my repository get onto Instagram?

They must be reachable at a public HTTPS address. Claude Code can add hosted screenshots to your Tareno media library with `upload_media_from_url`. Files that only exist on your computer have to be hosted before Tareno can use them.

### Does Claude Code need an Instagram Business account?

Instagram's documentation says API publishing works for professional accounts. Switch a personal account to a professional one first, connect it in Tareno, and Claude Code will see it when you ask it to list your accounts.

### Can Claude Code write alt text for terminal screenshots?

Yes. Ask it to describe what the output says instead of naming the image. Tareno accepts alt text of up to 1,000 characters per media item, and Instagram's documentation lists alt text for image posts.

### Will Claude Code mention features that did not ship?

Only if the source it reads does. Point it at the released changelog section, and ask it to verify in the code that each feature is enabled by default. You still read the draft before approving anything.

### How many slides can the release carousel have?

Tareno's composer configuration for Instagram lists up to 10 images per post. Five or six slides usually tell a release story better than ten, because each slide should carry a single change.

## Tareno tools used

- `upload_media_from_url`
- `create_drafts`
- `get_action_status`

Approval model: Tareno saves drafts directly. Scheduling, publishing, edits to scheduled posts and deletions become pending actions that a person approves in the Tareno dashboard; no agent can approve them.
