ChatGPT for Instagram: Captions for Approved Images
Let ChatGPT pair captions with images from your Tareno media library, save carousels as drafts and request a slot. Formats, prompts, limits and approval steps.
Can ChatGPT write Instagram captions and schedule posts through Tareno?
Yes. ChatGPT finds the approved images in your Tareno media library, writes captions that follow your brief and saves the best image and caption pairs as drafts for your Instagram account. It can also read your account's earlier posts and their comments. Scheduling creates a pending request that you approve in Tareno, so nothing is published from the chat.
An Instagram campaign lives or dies on the pairing of one image with one caption, and a chat is a good place to try several pairings before anything is scheduled. With the Tareno plugin, ChatGPT finds the images already in your media library, writes captions that match your campaign brief and saves the best pair as a draft on your connected Instagram account. This page shows how to run that pairing step by step, which Instagram formats Tareno accepts, and where the approval checkpoint sits. It is written for small brands, creators and agency teams that prepare campaigns from a folder of approved visuals.
Example: a ceramics studio launching a glaze collection
Picture a ceramics studio with six approved photos of a new glaze series already uploaded to its Tareno media library. The owner opens ChatGPT, selects Tareno with @ and asks it to run list_media so they can see the filenames. They explain what each photo shows, paste the campaign brief and add one rule: no claims about food safety. ChatGPT proposes three captions per photo, each pairing a filename with its text, and the owner picks two. For the third photo, which exists only as a link in a supplier folder, ChatGPT uses upload_media_from_url to add it to the library. It then calls create_drafts with the carousel format for the six images, the alt text the owner dictated for each one and a single caption. Nothing is scheduled. The owner reviews the carousel in Tareno, adjusts one sentence and asks ChatGPT to request a Thursday 18:00 slot, which Tareno holds as a pending action until approval.
Step by step
01
List the visuals
Ask ChatGPT to call list_media and show the filenames and folders. Work only with images that already carry your approval; a caption written for the wrong photo is the most common Instagram mistake.
02
Describe what each image shows
ChatGPT pairs captions with filenames, so tell it what is on each picture: product, setting, the people who appear and anything that must not be implied. The brief and this description are the whole source for the captions.
03
Add missing media
If an approved image is not yet in the library, give ChatGPT its public HTTPS link and ask for upload_media_from_url, naming a folder and tags. The file then sits next to your other assets and can be used in any draft.
04
Choose the format
Tareno offers the formats post, carousel, reel, story, video and shorts, and checks the chosen one against the connected account through get_platform_schema. Say which format you want, because a carousel needs several images and a reel needs a video file.
05
Save the pair as a draft
ChatGPT calls create_drafts for the Instagram account with the chosen media, the alt text you dictated and the caption. Open the draft in Tareno and check that the exact image sits next to the exact caption.
06
Request the slot and approve
Ask for a date, time and IANA time zone. Tareno turns the request into a pending action that you approve in the dashboard before anything publishes.
Prompts to copy
Pair captions with approved images
Use Tareno to list my media library and find the files named [filename list]. For each image, write two Instagram captions for the campaign [campaign name] using this brief: [brief]. Show every caption next to its filename, and do not save or schedule anything until I choose.
Build a carousel draft
Create an Instagram carousel draft in Tareno from these library files: [filenames in order]. Use the caption [chosen caption], add alt text I will dictate for each image, and save it as a draft for [Instagram account name] only. Return the draft ID and the image order you used.
Learn from the account's own posts
Use Tareno to list the last twenty posts on my Instagram account [account name], including any published outside Tareno. Identify the three captions that performed best, describe what they share in length and structure, and use that to rewrite my caption for [campaign]. Do not publish.
Check one post's results
Use Tareno to fetch the analytics for my Instagram post [post reference from the list] and read its latest comments. Summarize what worked, group the comments by theme and draft three short replies in my brand voice. Do not post any replies.

As configured in Tareno on 2026-10-24. The live rules for your own account come from the get_platform_schema tool.
What Instagram itself documents
API publishing is limited to Instagram professional accounts. If the account is linked to a Page that requires Page Publishing Authorization, it cannot publish until that authorization is complete.
A carousel can hold up to 20 images or videos, mixed. Tareno's own composer configuration lists up to 10 images per Instagram post.
Alt text sent through the API applies to image posts only; reels and stories do not support it.
Instagram is one of the networks where Tareno can list posts published outside Tareno (list_account_posts), where Instagram's API permits it, return analytics for a single post (get_post_analytics) and read its comments (list_post_comments). ChatGPT can therefore learn from the whole account, not only from posts created in your workspace.
Tareno offers the formats post, carousel, reel, story, video and shorts, and validates the chosen format against the connected Instagram account. Its schema takes up to 35 media items per item, each with optional alt text of up to 1,000 characters; Instagram's own limits are enforced when the account is checked.
Instagram supports transcripts and video download through Tareno, so a public Instagram video can be turned into text for captions or scripts.
Media must be public HTTPS URLs. A file that exists only on your computer has to be added to the media library first.
What does not work
ChatGPT cannot publish a reel from photos alone, because the reel format needs a video file that already exists in your media library.
It cannot judge brand fit or image rights, so you confirm every image and caption pair yourself before the request is approved.
It cannot post replies to comments, since Tareno reads Instagram comments but offers no tool to publish a reply.
Mistakes to avoid
Trusting a filename match without looking. Open the saved draft in Tareno and confirm the picture and the caption belong together before you approve anything.
Asking for a reel with only photos. A reel needs video; if you only have stills, choose a carousel or a post.
Hiding rules in your head. Prohibited claims and sensitive topics must be written into the brief, because ChatGPT cannot guess them.
Skipping alt text. It is optional in the schema but costs nothing to dictate, and it makes the post usable for more people.
Open the published Tareno listing, choose install or connect, and complete the Tareno login. Enable Tareno in a new conversation. For Claude, search for Tareno in the supported plugin directory.
Choose OAuth, connect and sign in with your own Tareno account. Check the requested permissions. Refresh the client's tool list after authorization.
Run list_accounts first. Confirm the returned workspace and account IDs before creating a draft. If no accounts appear, connect a social account in Tareno first.

Can ChatGPT choose which Instagram image matches which caption?
It can propose pairings from filenames and your descriptions, and it shows each caption next to its file. Because it cannot judge brand fit by itself, you confirm the final pair before the draft is saved and again when you open it in Tareno.
Can ChatGPT create an Instagram carousel through Tareno?
Yes. Ask for the carousel format and give the images in order. ChatGPT saves a draft with those images, and you review the sequence in Tareno before deciding whether to request a publishing time. Instagram's own limit on carousel size is checked against your account.
Which Instagram formats can ChatGPT prepare?
Tareno offers post, carousel, reel, story, video and shorts, and checks the chosen format against your Instagram account. A reel needs a video file, and a carousel needs several images, so tell ChatGPT the format together with the media you have.
Can ChatGPT learn from my existing Instagram posts?
Yes. Tareno can list posts of the connected account, including posts published outside Tareno where Instagram's API allows it, and can return analytics for a chosen post. ChatGPT can then describe what your best captions have in common.
Can ChatGPT reply to Instagram comments?
It can read the latest comments on a post and draft replies, because Tareno exposes comment reading for Instagram. It cannot post the replies for you through that tool, so you paste the approved wording into Instagram yourself.
Will my Instagram post publish without my approval?
No. Scheduling and publishing requests become pending actions in Tareno. Nothing reaches Instagram until you approve the action in the dashboard, and `get_action_status` shows what happened afterwards.
