Claude Code for Pinterest: Pins from Markdown Posts
Use Claude Code with Tareno to read new markdown posts and their front matter, write a Pinterest title and description for each and save pin drafts you approve in Tareno.
Can Claude Code create Pinterest pin drafts from the markdown posts in my repository?
Yes. Claude Code reads new posts and their front matter, writes a title within 100 characters, a description and alt text for each, matches the hero image and saves the pin as a draft through Tareno. It does not publish. The live URL and the image shape are checked by you, and scheduling needs your approval.
A blog built from markdown files already has the structured data a pin needs: a title, a description, a date, a hero image and a URL. What it lacks is the step that turns each post into a pin, which is why most developer blogs have none. Claude Code works inside the repository and can read every new post since the last pin was made. This page follows a developer who runs a static site, covering the loop from front matter to draft, the checks that matter for a link that must exist when the pin goes live, and the limits on what a pin can carry.
Example: a static-site developer pins the last month of posts
Imagine a developer with a Hugo blog and four new posts this month. She asks Claude Code to read the posts added since the last pin, using each file's front matter for the title, summary and hero image path. Claude Code notices that one post has no hero image and one has a landscape image. It writes pin text for the other two, checks the post URLs against the site's permalink pattern, finds both images with list_media and saves the drafts with create_drafts. It lists boards with get_platform_options, and she picks one. She requests two slots in the dashboard.
Step by step
01
Define which posts need pins
Tell Claude Code the date of the last pin, or let it compare the posts folder with the pins already listed. A rule like new since the last pin keeps the batch small and avoids repeats.
02
Read the front matter
Ask it to pull title, summary, tags and hero image path from each file. It reports posts that miss a field instead of inventing one.
03
Check images and URLs
Have Claude Code compute the live URL from the permalink pattern and check the hero image's shape. Pinterest favors tall images, and a pin that links to a 404 wastes the post.
04
Write pin text from the post
Request a title within 100 characters that leads with the topic people search, a description of about 300 characters and a sentence of alt text, all drawn from the post itself.
05
Save the drafts with a board
Claude Code lists the boards with get_platform_options and saves each pin through create_drafts. The destination link goes into the pin's own field in Tareno.
06
Request times and approve
Give days, times and an IANA time zone. The requests become pending actions, and you approve them in the Tareno dashboard before Pinterest receives anything.

Find posts without pins
As preparation for Tareno pin drafts, list the markdown posts in content/posts added after [2026-09-30] and read the title, summary, tags and hero image path from each front matter block. Report any post with a missing field or a hero image that is wider than it is tall, and do not write pin text yet.
Compute the URLs
For each post, compute the live URL from the permalink pattern in the site config and check that the file builds without errors. Give me a table of post, URL and hero image, and tell me which URL you could not verify before it goes into a pin.
Write the pin text
For each post with complete data, write a Pinterest title within 100 characters that leads with the main topic, a description of about 300 characters taken from the post and one sentence of alt text. Do not add claims that the post does not make, and count the characters of every title.
Save the drafts
Use Tareno to list my Pinterest boards for the account [name], find the hero images in the media library and save the approved pins as drafts with the post URL as the link and the board I confirm. Return the draft IDs and request no time yet.

Network-specific
a Pin needs a board ID; read the boards with get_platform_options (pinterest_boards)
As configured in Tareno on 2026-10-24. The live rules for your own account come from the get_platform_schema tool.
What Pinterest itself documents
Every Pin is created on a board, so the request needs a board ID. The title may be up to 100 characters and the description up to 800.
Alt text may be up to 500 characters and the destination link up to 2,048. Both are optional in the API.
Tareno's configuration for Pinterest is stricter than the API: media is required, descriptions stop at 500 characters, and the link goes into its own field.
Tareno's configuration for Pinterest puts the destination link in its own field and gives it no automatic preview, so the post URL is a field of the pin, not a part of the description.
Pinterest's API description allows a link of up to 2,048 characters, which fits any normal permalink but not a URL with a long tracking string.
Tareno's configuration allows one image per Pinterest pin and recommends 2:3, so a wide hero image from a blog template usually needs a tall variant.
Pinterest is a network where Tareno can list existing pins with list_account_posts, so Claude Code can compare the repository with what is already pinned instead of relying on a date.
What does not work
Claude Code cannot check that your site is deployed unless you tell it, so you confirm that the URL loads before approval.
It cannot create a Pinterest board through Tareno, so a board for a new category has to exist on Pinterest first.
It cannot publish a pin on its own, since a time request becomes a pin only after you approve it in the Tareno dashboard.
Mistakes to avoid
Pinning a post before the site has been deployed. The link must work when the pin goes live.
Using the landscape social card as the pin image. Make a tall version for Pinterest.
Adding tracking parameters that exceed the link limit or look odd. Keep the URL clean.
Writing the title from the file name. File names are for developers, and searchers do not use them.
Open the published Tareno listing, choose install or connect, and complete the Tareno login. Enable Tareno in a new conversation. For Claude, search for Tareno in the supported plugin directory.
Choose OAuth, connect and sign in with your own Tareno account. Check the requested permissions. Refresh the client's tool list after authorization.
Run list_accounts first. Confirm the returned workspace and account IDs before creating a draft. If no accounts appear, connect a social account in Tareno first.

Use the same Tareno account across supported clients. Open the relevant setup guide for authentication, first use, reconnect, and revocation.
Yes, by comparing the posts folder with the pins on your account, which Tareno can list for Pinterest, or by using a date you give it. Ask it to report the rule it used so you can check the result.
Where does the post URL go?
Into the pin's own link field. Tareno's configuration for Pinterest keeps the link separate and shows no automatic preview, so Claude Code does not need to repeat the URL in the description.
What if a post has no hero image?
Claude Code reports it and skips the pin. Add a tall image to the library, then ask again. A pin needs media in Tareno's configuration, so there is no text-only pin.
Can it pin every old post as well?
It can prepare them, but a burst of old pins in one day is not a good rhythm. Ask it to rank old posts by relevance and queue a few per week, with approval for each request.
Does this run in CI?
It can, but an unattended run should only read and create drafts. Keep scheduling and publishing out of any automated job, so a person approves each request in the Tareno dashboard.
Will a pin appear without my approval?
No. A time request is a pending action in Tareno, and Pinterest receives the pin only after you approve it in the dashboard. `get_action_status` shows what happened afterwards.
